An Award Winning Community.
The developer of Sandstone, Herbie Clearman, was named Commercial
Developer of the year in 1998 by the Mississippi
Urban Forestry Council for his efforts in preserving the acreage for "green space"
in a housing development.
As Sandstone's greatest asses is the natural beauty of the land, the development
of Sandstone was based on integrating the land into the living spaces in which
the homes are developed. This integration includes the setting aside of green space
(about 1/3 of the development site), providing nature trails which traverse the
development, and providing for a wetlands park, a community clubhouse, and open
spaces and and greenway amenities for nature to be enjoyed.
Sandstone has been developed with careful ecological planning
and design, aimed at insuring that the land's abundant bounty continues to benefit
future generations
and the 117 home sites are integrated into a natural setting on over 200 acres
to provide for natural living, in a suburban setting only 10 miles outside of
Hattiesburg.
For outdoor enthusiasts, those who enjoy walking and biking, Sandstone provides
an environment for enjoying these activities within the community. In addition,
the Rails to Trails hiking and biking corridor is a short bike ride away (about
1-1/2 miles). This corridor is developed to connect the University of Southern
Mississippi and Prentiss, Mississippi.
